last weekend was very special. i was feeling good and pain free, the weather was gorgeous, and our friends at the Morgan Conservatory - a paper-making - book arts and printmaking facility - in cleveland invited us to come play. we had the place pretty much to ourselves and here's some of what we made:
cotton rag with colorful paper pulps...
while we've both made paper before - pulp-painting was a first for us and is very addictive...
since i've been obsessed with sketching, watercolor and botanicals lately -- i can see a series blooming here!
the process is so zen-like and opie and i listened to great music and just pulled and painted paper...
i started with a batch of black cotton rag and then worked with a batch of flax pulp...
opie worked predominately with flax pulp...
before i show you some of the finished flax pieces - i also created a series of background papers for two projects that are of tremendous interest to me: the Women of Juarez and the Lost Children of Thuringia. German text from a discarded book and old newspapers from Mexico were incorporated into the pulp and will become the background papers for the box constructions that i'll post at a later date...
here's some of the other pieces we made. flax and other inclusions were incorporated into flax pulp...
so there you have it -- can you tell which of us made what!
and if you ever get an opportunity to take a workshop at the Morgan - go for it!
BTW: Oct 2 is their yearly silent auction. opie and i both made fantasic pieces to donate, so stop by if you can. their having a wonderful evening and will be actioning off some amazing art.
